Mission

To improve the quality of life for the poor and marginalized people in Nyeri communities, with a special focus on children and youth.Goals

Our goal is to improve the lives of children, youth and families through the provisions of programs and services that will result in social and economic development opportunities.

We believe that services offering stability to children, youth and their families are critical for maintaining healthy communities.

Through our initiatives, we:

  1. Reduce social isolation among children and youth.
  2. Help children and youth to realize their potential and create development opportunities for them
  3. Support poor families to reduce the risk of children being forced to streets and helping keep families together.
  4. Reduce the HIV/AIDS infection rate.

SYSC Future Plans

Future development plan for Shauri Yako Communality Youth Support Centre shall include the following:

  • Acquire a plot and build a vocational training school
  • Create a community resources centre cum library with internet services
  • Build a hostel for 24 visitors and 80 students

About SYSC

img_7 (69K)Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre (SYSC) is a community-based organization located in Nyeri, Kenya.

Founded in 1996, SYSC is registered with the Kenyan government's Ministry of Youth, Gender, and Social Services. SYSC is committed to youth and community development as means to alleviate poverty of marginalized people.



The SYSC purpose is to support and to create social and economic development opportunities for underprivileged residents of the Nyeri, with special focus on vulnerable youth, women and at risk-families. SYSC provides the following programs: youth development, vocational skills training, health outreach, sports, music lessons, HIV/AIDS home-based care (HBC), voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), environmental protection, drop-in centre, and community services.

SYSC work is inline with the Millennium Development Goals set out by the United Nations and acts in support of the global campaign to Make Poverty History. SYSC believes that progress towards poverty alleviation will take place only if these recommendations will be fully implemented and partnerships developed for committed action.
